Lean Advisors, Inc., was asked by Stellar Design and Construction Ltd. to join them at their conference held in Florida recently. The message they wanted to convey to the audience was of the experience of working with Stellar on designing a ‘new’ processing facility for Starbucks. The goal was to have us use our Lean expertise to influence the design of this new green field facility design which was to become the model for future expansion and processing for Starbucks.
This combination of talents from Lean Advisors and Stellar proved extremely successful and resulted in a design that created true ‘flow’ throughout the facility and gave them flexibility to expand their product lines in addition to being able to react faster to demands, lower the cost of processing and do it under much less square footage. The ultimate success was reached because, in this case, Lean could be incorporated into the design prior to construction and therefore was even more effective.
